Position description
The Genomics Research and Technology Hub in the Department of Biological Chemistry welcomes applications for a specialist position for genomics and molecular testing. Depending upon experience and skill set, responsibilities could include quality control for samples, generation of sequencing libraries for analysis of genomes and gene expression in bulk and single cell workflows, as well as applications of spatial transcriptomics, optical mapping and microarray. In addition to conducting tests, the candidate will be responsible for regular calibration and maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment, placing orders to maintain reagent stocks, acting as the laboratory safety officer and depending on experience, development of SOPs. Candidate will be responsible for analysis of molecular test data, sample storage, and communicating results of molecular tests.
Basic knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, genomics, molecular methods and basic statistics is preferred. Candidates are expected to have had at least two years of laboratory experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel. Programming skills, particularly Python or R is advantageous. Experience or interest in cell line authentication or CRSPR screening is a positive.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Junior Specialists – A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) or equivalent research experience.
Assistant Specialists – A Master’s degree (or equivalent degree), or five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.
Associate Specialists – A Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Associate Specialists are normally expected to have a record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published or in-press research in the field and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.
Full Specialists – A Doctoral degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Specialists at full rank are normally expected to have a significant record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published or in-press research in the field, professional recognition in the field, and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.
